The "Alina" Agency invites you to visit
the city of Yoshkar-Ola ...
|
|
Yoshkar-Ola is the capital of the Mari-El
Republic, its political, economic, cultural and scientific
center with the population of about 290,000
people.
Looking at the map of Russia you will find the
blue ribbon denoting the Volga River. In its central
reaches, on the left-hand you can find Yoshkar-Ola, the
capital of the Mari-El Republic that is a part of the
Russian Federation.
There are about 476 rivers in the Mari-El
Republic. Though foreigners know only the longest river -
Volga that runs across the territory of the Mari-El Republic
for 155 km. The Mari-El Republic is called the lake land -
there are more than 200 lakes and many of them are situated
in picturesque places and in the forests in the lowland.
Usually we take guests to have a rest near the biggest and
deepest Yalchik lake. Its depth is 34 meters and it is
famous for its clean water and rich vegetation.
The Yalchik has become a resort and people have a
good rest on the lake in summer. A few hundred years ago the
territory of the Mari-El Republic was covered with wild
forests.

Even now the forests cover half of it. They are
the main treasure of the Mari-El Republic. The city Yoshkar-Ola
first came into being as a military fortress in 1584. Since
1928 it has been called Yoshkar-Ola which literally means
"Red city" in the Mari language. Yoshkar-Ola is a wonderful
city with its modern architecture, green parks and
boulevards and its own history which dates back to the 16th
century. The city has 5 theatres, 3 schools of higher education,
a Research Institute, several museums and many schools,
libraries and recreation centers.
The collection of the Museum of Fine Arts
comprises more than seven thousand exhibits including works
of eminent European, Russian and Ukrainian painters.

The national emblem includes a picture of an elk
under a white snowflake with a cog inside against the
red-blue background of the shield. These signs symbolize
everything in which our republic is rich in and strong for -
it is the nature.
One of the most impressive places of interest is
the Memorial to the Military Glory erected in honor of those
who perished in World War II.
The memorial with its monument and the Eternal
Fire adds much to the beauty of the city famous for its
green parks, streets and boulevards.
Due to numerous green spaces the city is
especially beautiful in summer and in spring when it is
buried in green trees and bright flowers.
